[ENG SUB] 〈파도타기〉(2009)는 삶 속에서 출렁이는 순간과 장애를 넘어서는 경험을 파도의 능선에 비유한 작품이다. 짙은 코발트와 울트라마린이 나무 패널을 사선으로 가로지르며 끝없이 밀려오는 물결을 만들고, 짧게 찍은 점과 선들은 파도의 포말이자 세포처럼 서로를 따라 흐른다. 남색과 검은 색은 심해의 그림자를, 연한 터키블루와 밝은 연두는 빛의 흔적을 보여주며, 화면 전체에 미세한 떨림과 리듬을 남긴다. 수채의 층위는 붓질의 흔적을 그대로 드러내며, 바다 표면과 그 아래의 움직임을 동시에 경험하게 한다. 실제 서핑 장면을 그린 것이 아니라, 삶의 도전과 장애를 넘어가는 경험을 서핑에 비유하여, 감정과 몸이 파도를 타며 균형을 잡는 순간을 담았다. 관람자는 시선을 따라 자연스럽게 화면을 움직이며, 바깥의 바다와 내 안의 파도가 잠시 조화를 이루는 순간을 마주하게 된다. Riding the Wave (2009) metaphorically captures life’s fleeting moments and the challenges we navigate as wave crests. Deep cobalt and ultramarine sweep diagonally across the wooden panel, forming endless currents, while short strokes and dots ripple like foam or clusters of cells. Dark blues and blacks evoke the shadows of the deep sea, while pale turquoise and bright green fragments catch fleeting traces of light, leaving subtle vibrations and rhythms across the surface. The layered watercolor reveals every trace of brushwork, allowing viewers to sense both the surface of the sea and the hidden movements beneath. Rather than depicting literal surfing, the work uses surfing as a metaphor for navigating life’s challenges, conveying the sense of balance and rhythm amidst emotional waves. Eyes naturally follow the diagonals, moving with the rhythm, encountering moments where the outer sea and the viewer’s inner waves align in harmony.
